Men’s 1s and 2s
The 1st and 2nd XIs winter season has been one of great success. Training has been regularly and enthusiastically attended and the squad’s skills are developing in both indoor and outdoor disciplines. The squad sent down three teams to the BUCS Northern Indoor Championships. The 1st VI excelled, winning a thrilling ‘winner-takes-all’ final game against Northumbria, and thus finishing undefeated at the top of the group of 8 sides. The 2nd and 3rd Vis also impressed finishing 4th and 5th respectively, beating challenging opposition. Following finishing top of the group, the 1st VI travelled down to Old Trafford, Manchester for the next round. A fiery performance led them to again finish as champions, with Leeds in second. The eagerly anticipate the national finals in 2nd semester – an impressive and fire time feat for EUCC.
The women’s squad have also had a successful first semester and are looking as strong as ever going into semester 2 and the cricket season. Our first VI competed in the BUCS Northern Indoor Championship. Despite some very impressive performances from the team, we were not able to follow the men’s success and progress to the next round. Nonetheless, performances like fresher Kitty’s four consecutive 6s did not go unnoticed, helping us secure two wins against Newcastle and St Andrews. For the less experiences members of the squad, the Wee Bash Indoor tournaments provided an excellent opportunity to put the skills practiced in training into play. All those involved enjoyed taking part and the fun, inclusive nature of the tournament. We are looking forward to moving into the outdoor season and to put into practice what we have worked on.
